Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, gave the assurance when he received NACCIMA’s newly elected National President, Jani Ibrahim, and his team at Customs Headquarters in Abuja.
Adeniyi, who appreciated the association’s support for ongoing reforms, said his administration considers collaboration key to balancing security, revenue collection, and ease of trade. “From the first day I took office, I made collaboration a priority. Security and revenue are critical, but they cannot be achieved without trade facilitation. We are already making progress, and as part of this effort, we will establish dedicated help desks for your members to resolve issues quickly,” he said.
On his part, Ibrahim commended Adeniyi on his recent election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organization Council, describing it as a testament to Nigeria’s growing influence in global trade administration. He noted that Customs’ reforms were already cutting down bureaucratic delays, reducing cargo dwell time, and improving Nigeria’s competitiveness.
He proposed the creation of a Joint Technical Facilitation Committee made up of representatives from both NACCIMA and Customs to strengthen consultation and track progress. According to him, such a partnership would not only reduce the cost of doing business but also position Nigeria more strategically under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
