His election followed the resignation of Hyacinth Dajoh, who stepped down in a letter read during an emergency sitting on Sunday. The session was presided over by Deputy Speaker Lami Ogenyi.
Before Emberga’s emergence, lawmakers had recalled four members earlier suspended for leading an impeachment move against the former Speaker. Once Dajoh’s resignation was adopted, Emberga was nominated by Douglas Akya and seconded by Abu Umoru, before being sworn in immediately.
In his acceptance remarks, Emberga praised his predecessor for bowing out gracefully and promised to run an inclusive and fair legislature. He urged colleagues to put aside divisions and focus on peace, development, and good governance in Benue State.
