The talks, expected to involve the Minister of Labour, officials of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, and the Solicitor-General of the Federation, will focus on drawing up a clear timetable for signing and implementing the renegotiated deal and other reports from recent discussions.
Sources within the union said the urgency stems from growing discontent among ASUU branches nationwide, many of which have warned that their patience is running out. The renegotiated document was concluded in December 2024 and formally submitted to government in February 2025, but it has remained unsigned.
Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, the Zonal Coordinator of ASUU’s Abuja Zone, Prof. Al-Amin Abdullahi, said the union had fulfilled its obligations during the renegotiation and now expected government to show commitment by adopting the report without delay. He warned that failure to act could trigger another nationwide shutdown of public universities.
