FG Clarifies: Northwest Included in Dialysis Subsidy Scheme

In a statement, Alaba Balogun, Deputy Director and Head of Information at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, said the subsidy applies across all regions. He explained that the cost of a dialysis session in federal hospitals has been cut from about ₦50,000 to ₦12,000 to ease the burden on patients struggling with kidney-related illnesses.

Balogun explained that the programme is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to make healthcare more accessible and affordable, especially for vulnerable Nigerians. He noted that the pilot phase of the scheme is already running in eleven federal health facilities spread across every geopolitical zone, including the Northwest.

Hospitals currently benefiting from the programme include Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, University of Jos Teaching Hospital, National Hospital Abuja, Federal Medical Centre Ebute Metta, University College Hospital Ibadan, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa, Federal Teaching Hospital Owerri and Federal Medical Centre Abakaliki.

He added that the scheme will soon be expanded to cover more federal hospitals across the country. According to him, this move is part of government’s broader commitment to reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases and improving the quality of life for Nigerians in need of dialysis.
