FG Declares September 5 Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the federal government in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja. He congratulated Muslims across the country and urged them to reflect on the Prophet’s teachings of peace, love, tolerance and humility.

Tunji-Ojo encouraged Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for the unity, progress and prosperity of the nation. He also appealed for greater dedication to nation-building, stressing that security and development require collective commitment.

The federal government assured citizens of its continued efforts to strengthen security, foster economic recovery and promote peaceful coexistence.

Eid-ul-Mawlid is observed by Muslims globally as a day to honor the birth and legacy of Prophet Muhammad.
