Information and National Orientation Minister, Mohammed Idris, in a statement on Friday, described the incident as a barbaric assault on innocent citizens who had gathered peacefully to pray. He assured that security forces are already pursuing the attackers and pledged that justice would be swift and decisive.
“This heinous act is not only an attack on the people of Malumfashi but also on our shared humanity,” Idris said, adding that the government will never allow terrorism to take root in Nigeria.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extended his condolences to the families of the victims, the community of Malumfashi, and the Katsina State Government. He prayed for the repose of the departed and strength for the bereaved to bear their loss.
The government highlighted recent breakthroughs in counter-terrorism, including the arrest of high-profile insurgent leaders such as Mahmud al-Nigeri of the Mahmuda group, his deputy Abu Abba, and Mahmud Muhammad Usman of the Ansaru group, all of whom had been on international wanted lists.
Officials say the arrests demonstrate progress in the ongoing fight against terrorism and reflect President Tinubu’s resolve to end the menace. The government warned that those who shed innocent blood will find no safe haven in Nigeria.
