The raid, which took place on Saturday, followed weeks of surveillance on the criminal hideout. Security agents also recovered more than ten stolen vehicles believed to have been taken from kidnap victims.
Residents of Awa, who had lived in fear of constant attacks, described the operation as a huge relief. Many said the camp had served as a safe haven for kidnappers and armed gangs who terrorized surrounding communities.
A security official involved in the raid said the breakthrough was made possible through intelligence sharing and cooperation between agencies. He explained that the arrested suspects are already providing useful information that could lead to more arrests.
The Anambra State Police Command urged the public to remain vigilant and to continue working with security agencies, stressing that community support is vital to sustain the fight against violent crime.
