INEC said the applications are being reviewed in line with constitutional provisions and guidelines to ensure only credible associations meet the requirements for recognition.
The surge comes as the 2027 general elections draw closer, with many of the groups promising fresh alternatives to existing parties.
Analysts note that while the interest reflects Nigeria’s vibrant political space, it may also raise concerns about the sustainability and effectiveness of smaller parties in the electoral system.
