Operation Sweep Abuja Clean Nets 700 Vehicles in Fresh Clampdown

Director of Security Services, Adamu Gwary, said the seizures followed a series of stop-and-search operations across the territory. He explained that most of the vehicles used by one-chance robbers are either unregistered, carry fake plates, or use tinted glass to conceal their activities. Within the past week alone, seven stolen cars were recovered.

The operation, tagged “Sweep Abuja Clean,” is being carried out by a multi-agency task force. Gwary warned commercial drivers in particular to avoid tinted glasses, noting that criminals often exploit them to trap unsuspecting passengers.

Deborah Osho, Head of Operations at the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, added that unpainted and unregistered taxis are a major target of the clampdown. She said many of the impounded cars were operating illegally and posed a danger to residents.

Authorities have assured that the campaign will continue until Abuja is rid of rogue drivers. While acknowledging that the checks may cause inconvenience, officials urged residents to cooperate, stressing that the operations are aimed at protecting lives and property.
