Tinubu in Brazil: Nigeria, Brazil Seal Fresh Ties with Energy and Aviation Deals

At the Planalto Palace, President Tinubu met his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Both leaders witnessed the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding covering trade, aviation, finance, science, and diplomacy. One of the most significant outcomes was the announcement that Petrobras, Brazil’s state-owned oil giant, would return to Nigeria after years of absence.

Tinubu also revealed that Nigeria’s Air Peace will soon begin direct flights between Lagos and São Paulo. The move is expected to boost tourism, business, and cultural exchanges, making travel between Africa’s most populous nation and South America’s largest economy easier than ever.

Agriculture also featured prominently in discussions, with both sides advancing talks on the Green Imperative Mechanization Project. The initiative aims to strengthen Nigeria’s food security by providing modern farming equipment from Brazil.

Speaking after the meetings, President Tinubu said the renewed partnership with Brazil would help unlock Nigeria’s economic potential, create jobs, and strengthen global ties. For many Nigerians, the agreements offer practical benefits that could reshape daily life, from cheaper travel options to more mechanized farms.

The visit marks a fresh chapter in Nigeria–Brazil relations, moving from symbolic diplomacy to concrete action with far-reaching impact.
