The governor disclosed the adjustment on Tuesday night during a meeting with leaders of organised labour at the Government House in Owerri. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the wage review also covered other categories of workers, with doctors’ pay moving from N215,000 to N503,000 and lecturers in tertiary institutions seeing their minimum wage rise from N119,000 to N222,000.
Uzodimma noted that the decision came after years of hardship faced by the people of Imo, ranging from insecurity and the COVID-19 pandemic to the economic strain of subsidy removal and prolonged wage disputes.
He stressed that no government could thrive without a cordial relationship with workers, adding that better pay would boost productivity, improve family welfare, and stimulate the local economy.
