Abuja, October 23rd - The President of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), Ambassador Emmanuel Obi Okafor, mni, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for appointing Senator Ken Nnamani, GCON, as Chairman of the NIPSS Governing Board.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to Senator Nnamani, in Abuja, yesterday, Ambassador Okafor underscored the former Senate President's impressive track record as a seasoned statesman and reformer, adding that he is well placed to elevate NIPSS into a world-class Think Tank. He also reaffirmed AANI's commitment to collaborating with NIPSS to enhance its growth, relevance, and national impact. Amb Okafor highlighted the strategic significance of NIPSS in shaping public policy in Nigeria, and pledged AANI's support for initiatives that would strengthen the Institute's capacity to drive national development.
In his remarks Senator Nnamani welcomed the AANI leadership and outlined proposed reforms aimed at repositioning NIPSS as a leading policy think tank in Africa. He emphasized the need to strengthen admission standards for the Senior Executive Course, create regional centers for short courses, and the establishment of an Endowment Fund to support research and capacity-building initiatives. The Senator also stressed the importance of reviewing the legal and structural framework of NIPSS, to ensure it remains relevant and effective in addressing Nigeria's evolving policy needs.
The courtesy visit, which had the Director-General of NIPSS, Professor Ayo Omotayo, past AANI President Engr. MG Umar mni, and AANI EXCO in attendance, reaffirmed the unity of purpose between AANI, the Board, and Management of NIPSS, as well as renewed commitment to upholding national cohesion, strategic policy direction, and transformational leadership. The meeting also expressed the shared commitment of AANI and NIPSS to driving policy reforms and capacity-building initiatives that will support Nigeria's developmental aspirations and reinforce the country's position as a leading player on the global stage.
NIPSS conducts intensive annual research through the Senior Executive Course on topical issues assigned by the President and Commander in Chief, aimed at deepening policy initiatives and supporting governance processes.
